A year after a change in federal leadership of the US public health system, a new survey shows that trust in public health agencies has declined dramatically. Only 50% of American adults say they trust health recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), compared with 77% in the spring of 2025. The share that says they trust their state health department has fallen from 80% to 66%, and the share that says they trust their local public health department has fallen from 82% to 70%.
