Productivity company Notion is shutting down its email product, Notion Mail, on September 22. The company said it is shutting down its email inbox in favor of offering its own AI agent. It says users are increasingly handing over the reins of their email to agents and not opening their inboxes at all.
“As Notion agents have become more capable, we’ve seen more users delegate email workflows to them. Today, more than half of Notion Mail users manage email without opening their inbox. So, we’re going to use agents to run your inbox,” the company said a post on x.
Notion Mail is linked to Gmail, meaning all emails in the inbox will remain intact. However, if users want to keep drafts and scheduled emails they must export them. The company said that users can export snippets and auto-label instructions and use them elsewhere and stressed that Notion’s email-based agents will continue to operate after Notion Mail is shut down.
Notion announced this Email product in preview mode in 2024 After acquiring security-focused productivity startup Skiff. The company aims to integrate email with Notion AI for users with features like auto-labeling, filtering, and handling scheduling. The company made the product available to users in April 2025 to better compete with products like Superhuman fixer. New startups like AgentMail are keeping pace with Notion’s thesis and trying to build An email service specifically for agents.
