The European Union said on Friday that it would stick to its timeline to enforce its landmark AI law, in response to a concrete effort by more than one hundred technical companies, to delay AI’s rules, the Reuters said.
Tech companies around the world, including veterans like Alphabet, Meta, Mistral AI and ASML Is urging The European Commission asked to delay in rolling the AI Act, stating that Europe’s opportunities have been hurt to compete in the AI Arena that develops rapidly.
The report said, “I have seen, in fact, a lot of reporting, a lot of letters and a lot of things are being said on the AI Act. I should be as clear as possible, the clock has to stop. There is no grace period. There is no grace period. There is no break.”
A Risk-based regulation for applications of artificial intelligenceThe AI Act bans a handful of “unacceptable risk”, such as cases such as cognitive behavior manipulation or social scoring. It also defines a set of “high-risk” uses, such as biometrics and facial identification, or AI used in domains such as education and employment. App developers will need to fulfill risk and quality management obligations to register their systems and gain access to the European Union market.
Another category of AI apps, such as chatbots, is considered a “limited risk” and is subject to light transparency obligations.
