Disney looking to make a unified ‘super app,’ report says

According to a report, senior Disney executives could potentially combine Disney+ with other apps like Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line Navigator to create a unified app. bloomberg.

Sources said these discussions were in the early stages, but they are internally referring to it as a “super app.”

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, who replaced Bob Iger earlier this year, has stressed his intention effective Disney Experiences further harmonizes the relationship between Disney+ and Disney parks.

“Disney+ becomes the primary connection between Disney and its fans, the place where everything comes together,” D’Amaro said on Disney’s quarterly earnings call this week.

This project is somewhat reminiscent of Elon Musk’s desire to turn X into “”.everything appLike China’s WeChat (although X recently launched one). standalone chat appwhich is counter-intuitive). But instead of incorporating virtually everything like payments and messaging, Disney’s ambition to bring all of its mobile platforms under one app is a little more feasible, though still a little eyebrow-raising.

It’s possible that D’Amaro wants to increase interest in the parks by getting Mickey Mouse in front of more Disney+ subscribers. It’s worth noting that Disney+ subscribers and Disney park visitors are not necessarily the same customers, which could prove awkward if the Disney+ app is cluttered with ads for the cruise.
