Apple MP is investing $ 500 million in materials, currently the only fully integrated rare earth mining company to be operated in the United States, as part of the comprehensive effort to strengthen the domestic rare earth supply chain.
Tech veteran Announced With this deal on Tuesday, it is committed to purchasing American-made rare earth magnets developed in the major feature of MP Materials in Fort Worth, Texas. The factory will develop a series of neodymium magnet manufacturing lines specially designed for apple products.
Apple says that once American-made magnets are built, they will be sent to the country and all over the world to help them increase global demand for materials.
The two companies will also cooperate to set up a rare Earth recycling line at Mountain Pass in California. This feature will allow the MP content to be processed by recycling rare earth feedstock, which includes materials from the electronics and post-India scraps used, and will be reused in apple products.
In addition, companies will work together to develop novel magnet materials and processing technologies to increase magnets.
Apple says that the commitment announced on Tuesday is part of its pledge to spend more than $ 500 billion in the US over the next four years.
Tech giant first used rare earth elements in the taptic engine of iPhone 11 in 2019. Today, almost all magnets in its devices are created with rare earth elements 100 percent recycled.
