PITTSBURGH — NFL teams received a letter Wednesday about the progress of the East Florida defensive tackle Caleb Banks As he recovers from a surgically repaired bone fracture in his left foot.
The letter said Banks had a CT scan on Tuesday and “is expected to be fully cleared for full football activities in early June,” sources told ESPN.
The letter and timeline come after Dr. Norman Waldrop, a foot and ankle specialist at Andrews Clinic, looked at Banks’ scans. Banks had surgery on a broken fourth metatarsal in his left foot on March 9.
Banks is one of the top defensive tackles in this year’s draft class, and a strong performance at the Senior Bowl in January bolstered his draft stock. But he broke a bone in his foot at the NFL scouting combine in February, raising questions about his health as Banks played only three games during the 2025 season at Florida due to the same foot injury.
Banks, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 327 pounds, is ranked among the top five defensive tackles in all of ESPN’s draft analyst ratings. Jordan Reed and Field Yates both have him in third place.
In 2024, Banks proved to be a dominant interior player in the SEC, finishing with seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, and he entered the 2025 season as a second-team All-SEC preseason selection.
He played in 12 games at Florida in both 2023 and 2024, recording 19 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 2023.
