Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior said that on Monday, he is working to overhaul the vaccine injury compensation program (VICP), which aims to compensate those who have been injured by vaccines.
Kennedy wrote a long, “Vicp is broken, and I intend to fix it. Post on social platform x,
Kennedy has long targeted VICP, and his X post has echoed many of his previous arguments.
He earlier said that he wants to expand the program, making it easier for the claimants to qualify for the awards, which on the basis of adverse events, they claim that they are associated with vaccines, but are not currently part of the program.
The Congress created a Vicp in 1986 as a part of a law, in which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) required health providers and manufacturers to report the vaccine adverse events.
The program is designed to provide fair and quick payments for children and pregnant women who suffer rare but serious side effects from shots. It also provides a liability shield to the manufacturers so that they can encourage to continue making vaccines.
Vicp “is no mistake,” so families can get compensation without proving that the drug manufacturers were careless. The plaintiff filed a petition for a particular court system, where government officials are known as special masters, who act like judges, rule without judges.
The successful plaintiff gets money from the federal government and not the commentary manufacturers. Compensation Trust Fund comes from a excise duty tax on recommended vaccines, but can win the amount of money.
The program also makes it easier to sue manufacturers in other courts.
Kennedy, who founded a major anti-vaccine group, has pushed the claim that vaccines cause autism and have been involved in prosecuting the vaccine manufacturers on the patient’s claims on the patient’s claims, saying that the VICP has removed any encouragement to make safe shots for pharmaceutical companies.
“Vicp no longer works to achieve his Congress intentions,” Kennedy wrote. “I will not allow Vicp to continue to ignore its mandate and fail their mission of quick and proper compensation to the vaccine-wonderful persons.”
Kennedy did not explain in detail what changes he was making but said that he is working with Attorney General Palm Bandi.
earlier this month, During an interview With Tucker Carlson, Kennedy said that he has a team in HHS that is working on the expansion of VICP.
“We only brought a man in this week, who revolutionize the vaccine injury compensation program,” said Kennedy.
“We are looking at the ways to increase the program so that the covid vaccine can be compensated by the people …
