minneapolis-the minnesota twins And Major League Baseball is investigating jerren duranalleges that a Fan Duran points his middle finger Told during a game boston red sox Outfielder hitting himself.
Duran made the gesture as he returned to the dugout after a fifth-inning groundout in Boston’s 6-0 loss to Minnesota at Target Field on Tuesday night.
“We were made aware of the situation late last night and are looking into it,” said Dustin Morse, the Twins’ senior vice president of communications and public affairs. ‘There is no place for this kind of conduct in our sport.’
MLB confirmed its own investigation, in accordance with standard practice of reviewing both player and fan conduct before determining any potential discipline.
“Someone told me to kill myself. I’m used to it at this point, you know?” “They shouldn’t have reacted like that, but things like this are still provocative,” Duran said after the game.
Duran discussed his severe depression and suicide attempt in a Netflix documentary series that debuted last year.
“Honestly, it’s my fault for talking about my mental health because I kind of brought in the haters. So I’ve had to get used to it,” Duran said. “I was just trying to hold it in and not really bring it up to the team. I mean, we’re trying to win a game. I shouldn’t even bring it up to anybody. … It just happens.”
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after the game that he had not seen the collision or reviewed video of it, but he shared his thoughts with reporters before the series finale on Wednesday.
“I know the Twins are all over the case and trying to find out who it was, and hopefully they find that guy,” Cora said, adding that if he is found “it will probably be the last big league game that guy is going to attend.”
“We have Jaren’s support. Like I said last year, to get him to speak out, he saved lives,” Cora said. “And it’s not easy. It’s not easy because, as he said, we’re in the business of winning games, and he doesn’t want distractions. And he’s not a distraction. It’s not. He’s just a player who plays for the Red Sox and he has our full support.”
Duran played all nine innings in left field on Wednesday, going 0 for 5 with one run. Boston wins 9-5.
