As Lebron James Approaching the end of his NBA career, he has limited time to solidify his claim as basketball’s GOAT over Michael Jordan.
However, that debate can never be settled, James, in a wide range of interviews In an interview with ESPN held during the season, Jordan acknowledged Jordan’s influence on him.
“I hope I at least made him proud wearing that No. 23,” James told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound James pointed to the inherent difference between himself and Jordan, who was listed at 6-6 and 200 pounds during his playing days.
“I’ve never compared myself to MJ because our games are completely different,” James said. “I’ve been a point-forward/forward-point my whole life. I’ve always looked for the pass. MJ was kind of looking for the shot. It wasn’t that, he did that. He was looking for the shot.
“There’s a lot of things where I would say my game is a lot different and a little better than his, but he was great. We’re both great. We’re both great basketball players.”
There are some aspects of Jordan’s game that James openly admires.

“I think I’m one of them. I think I’m a one-of-a-kind player because of the way I play the game. And MJ, too. An incredible basketball player. I think his midrange jump shot was incredible. James said, “You can look at both of us and say you love both of us without trying to get angry at the other person. And usually, it gets angry at me.” “But I definitely know that I have contributed to this journey.”

James said, “I never thought I could be him, but I dreamed of the opportunity to live in the shoes he lived in.” “I dreamed that I would be able to be in a big game and be a game winner as the clock struck down. I needed inspiration from some of the people in music and sports growing up. I needed that.”
James, 41, also talked about his 4-6 record in the NBA Finals that fans hold against him, pointing to Jordan’s 6-0 mark in the championship round.
“When I was younger, I had this notion that people were picking on me for losing in the finals, and when I was younger, I used to hear that,” James said. “Like, people would really rather you not make the playoffs or lose in the first round than lose in the finals, which is crazy to me. And I almost feel like, is it because it’s me? Everyone has to say something about my career: ‘Oh, okay, he made eight finals in a row, but he was only able to win three.’ ‘He’s the leading scorer in NBA history, but he’s played for 23 years.’
“Yeah, but I’m also the fastest to 1,000 [points]. Fastest up to 2,000. Fastest up to 5,000. Fastest up to 10,000. So when I realized it was just a knock on me, I started to appreciate it a little more. Like, I’m upset that I personally didn’t have a better winning percentage in the finals, but people try to turn it into a negative, it doesn’t bother me as much as it did when I was younger.”
