5 million above-ground pools recalled after deaths reported in 6 states

(Nexstar) -2007 and 2022 are remembering about 5 million up-land pools after being associated with sinking of nine children.

The US Consumer Excise Safety Commission (CPSC) announced to remember on Monday, along with several manufacturers of the pool. A Remember alert Published by CPSC indicated that an external lease, which wraps around the support of the pool, can provide children a way to enter the water, even if the ladder is removed.

Alert reads,

The CPSC believes that the pool strips were “between the ages of 22 to 3” children were associated with nine deaths. Six states drowned between 2007 and 2022: California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri. The CPSC said that three additional incidents were known during that time, but said whether those incidents resulted in death.

The CPSC includes an image of standing on one of the compression straps, showing how a child may be able to enter water on his own.

Recall -affected pools were manufactured in China and the brand names were sold under Bestway, Coleman, Intex and Polygroup, the recall alert. All models have sides that are 48 inches or long.

Reculed pools were offered online in shops and online in more than a dozen national outlets. Major retailers included Walmart, Target, Amazon, The Home Depot, CostCo, BJ and Wafare, which included many others listed in the CPSC alert.

Consumers who have pools are being urged to contact the Bestway, Intex or Polygroup for a free repair kit, which allows owners to replace compression straps with a rope that sits near the ground.
