First E-STAR annual report offers unprecedented view of early access to kidney transplantation

Chronic kidney disease affects millions of Americans, and more than 800,000 people in the United States are living with end-stage kidney disease. While kidney transplantation is widely recognized as the treatment of choice for eligible patients, offering prolonged survival and improved quality of life, many remain on dialysis due to organ shortages and barriers that limit access at all stages in the process of receiving a transplant.
