The deaths of three people aboard a small cruise ship during a suspected outbreak of hantavirus highlight the potential toll of the rodent-borne disease. “Once someone gets sick, once someone is exposed to hantavirus, they can develop severe disease very rapidly,” said Neil Maniar, director of Northeastern’s Master of Public Health program.
