Bret Taylor’s Sierra buys YC-backed AI startup Fragment

Sierra, founded by customer service agent startup Brett Taylorannounced on Thursday that it has acquired YC-backed French startup FragmentWhich helps businesses integrate AI into the workflow.

This is Sierra’s third public acquisition. Earlier, Japan-based enterprise AI solutions company Opera Tech (which he achieved at the end of March) and voice agent company Receptive AI (Which it had also announced to achieve at the end of March). Fragment co-founders Olivier Moindrot and Guillaume Genthel will be joining the Sierra team.

In a blog post, Taylor and his co-founder, Clay Bever, wrote that Moindrot and Genthel will bring “valuable strengths” to Sierra’s “agent development efforts in France.” Terms of the deal were not announced. PitchBook estimates that Fragment raised approximately $2 million through its seed round.

Taylor, who also serves as chair of the board of OpenAI, co-founded Sierra with Google alumnus Bauer after stepping down as co-CEO of Salesforce in early 2023. The startup claims Casper, Clear and Brex as customers, and has raised more than $630 million funding so farInvestors including Sequoia and Benchmark have given it a valuation of $10 billion.
