Early TB treatment cuts HIV-related sepsis deaths by 23%, trial finds

Sepsis, a leading global cause of hospital deaths, occurs when the body’s response to infection causes tissue damage and organ failure. Africa bears the highest burden of sepsis in the world, with an estimated 48 million cases each year resulting in approximately 11 million deaths. People living with HIV have the greatest risk of dying from the condition.
