Google on Wednesday launched Android Emergency Live Video, which allows people to stream video while contacting emergency responders. This feature can help give additional context to first responders in situations like car accidents, fires, or medical crises.
No setup is required to use this feature. Instead, during an emergency call or text, the dispatcher can send a request to your device. Then, you can choose to share live video from your camera, which is encrypted and can be paused at your discretion.
“With one tap, you can start streaming securely from your camera, allowing responders to quickly assess the situation and get you the right help,” Google wrote in a blog post. “This real-time view can also help them guide you through life-saving steps like CPR until help arrives.”
Google and Apple each offer a set of safety features like emergency SOS, crash detection, fall detection, and satellite location services on their devices.
Android Emergency Live Video will be supported on Android phones running Android 8 or later. As of now, the feature will be rolling out in the US and some areas of Germany and Mexico.
