Ah, the essentials of life: death, taxes, and crow eating on the Internet.
Infrastructure service Cloudflare faced massive outages on Tuesday morning, shutting down access to many popular platforms like ChatGPS, Cloudflare, Spotify and others. Outage also hits Elon Musk’s ex, just a month after CEO praised it widespread aws outageWhich included encrypted messaging service Signal.
“Messages on wrote On X. We can’t link to his post directly because X is down.
Signal President Meredith Whitaker took the outage as an opportunity to explain the harms of Internet running on some infrastructure like Cloudflare and AWS.
“The question is not ‘Why does Signal use AWS?'” He wrote On BlueSky. “It’s about looking at the infrastructure requirements of any global, real-time, mass comms platform and asking how it is that we got to a place where there is no realistic alternative to AWS and other hyperscalers.”
Cloudflare wrote on this status page The problem has been identified and the solution is being implemented. As of publication, service has not yet been restored to all Cloudflare customers, but users may see some platforms begin to come back online.
