Tesla is remembering More than 10,000 Powerwall 2 home batteries were sold in the US after nearly two dozen incidents of the units overheating, smoking or catching fire were confirmed.
US recall comes just months after Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries recalled in Australia The following reports of fire.
In the Australian recall, the battery cells inside the Powerwall were manufactured by an unknown third-party supplier. Tesla did not immediately respond to questions about which company manufactured the cells covered by the US recall.
Overall, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) said five Powerwalls caught fire, resulting in minor property damage, and another six started smoking. The remaining 11 overheated. Electrek first reported news.
CSPC posted the recall notice on its website today. The affected PowerWalls were sold between November 2020 and December 2022. The agency is urging people to verify that their batteries are online and then check the Tesla app to see if the unit is included in the recall.
Tesla will discharge the affected units online and the company will provide replacements.
