Comedian Jon Stewart is associated with Comedy Central and “The Daily Show.”
The network announced Monday that Stewart, who resumed his hosting duties last year after President Trump won re-election, has signed a new contract to host “The Daily Show” through 2026.
“Jon Stewart is carrying forward the style he created. His return is a continued commitment to the sharp comedy and sharp commentary that defined ‘The Daily Show,'” Comedy Central head Ari Pierce said in a statement. “The renewal is a win for viewers, Comedy Central and all of our programming partners. We’re proud to support John and the extraordinary news team.”
Stewart, who hosts a show on Apple TV, is one of several satirists and late-night comedians who have made a name for themselves in recent years by mocking President Trump and his allies.
There has been speculation about Stewart’s future at the network after Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount, merged with entertainment giant Skydance this summer.
The “New Paramount,” as the company is called, is led by David Ellison, son of tech tycoon and Trump ally Larry Ellison.
Stewart has been sharply critical of Paramount over its cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and its settlement with President Trump regarding the “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Harris that aired last year.
