OpenAI has five years to turn $13 billion into $1 trillion

OpenAI is printing money right now. The company is raking in about $13 billion in annual revenue, 70% of which comes from ordinary people who pay $20 a month to chat with the AI. According to Financial TimesThis is pretty strange when you consider that ChatGate has 800 million regular users, but only 5% are actually paying customers.

However, while raking in billions, OpenAI has also committed to spending more than $1 trillion (yes, trillion) over the next decade. The company recently signed deals with Oracle, Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom for more than 26 gigawatts of computing capacity – the cost of the infrastructure will far outweigh the up-front costs.

As the FT reports, OpenAI is getting creative to bridge this gap. The five-year plan includes exploring government contracts, shopping tools, video services, consumer hardware, and even becoming a computing supplier itself through its Stargate data center project.

An increasing number of professions require mathematics to perform. The FT says some of America’s most valuable companies now rely on OpenAI to fulfill major contracts; If OpenAI falters (no pressure!), it could potentially destabilize the US market that is heavily dependent on the AI boom.
