Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith said on Monday that he would consider jumping his career as a politician by campaigning for the presidency.
“Do you want to start as President of the United States?” Stephen Colbert asked “The late show,
“Why not?” Smith replied.
Smith has been a sports commentator for over two decades, including a series of contracts for the show on ESPN.
However, a graduation of Winston-Salem State University has recently attracted a political audience for harsh criticism of both Democrats and Republicans through its podcast.
“I am a registered independent. I either do not like the party. And I think a part of the problems exists, a large part of the problems in this country, because both sides are so polarized that it forces you as an American citizen, if you are busy busy with your tail here every day, you are trying to fulfill all.
Smith said that MPs in Washington ignored policies and voted opposite the opposing party on most measures.
“All you have to do is that you disagree from the other side. You don’t even need to see the bill. You don’t have to pay attention to the issues. What is that aspect? We vote in another way because we do not want to do anything that they want to do. They don’t want to do anything we want to do,” Smith said.
“We want to do this polarization that happens. American citizens are used as pawns and take advantage of it and I hate it. I discourage it. And as a result, I say to myself, if I can leave the door open, where I can make a sound and make a sound, I would like to take some people about these people.
His comments come months ahead of the 2026 mid -term elections and three years ahead of a vacancy in the White House. However, Smith shared his reading on President Trump and explained why so many politicians can feel the leader.
“Trump puts him in the palm of his hands. Why? Because he can snatch his fingers. He can change his base against them. They know it. They are afraid of it, and they want to be a politician of a career instead of acting really. So, he is on his mercy,” Smith said.
“Why? Because of their popularity and their ability to resonate with the public. I am echoing with the public, I am confident that I can resonate with the public. And that’s why, this is not difficult.”
Smith has launched a first president dialect in April, saying this. He will “consider” One run.
