Indianapolis – Colts‘Month-Lumb Quarterback Battle is over.
Colts coach Shane Stechen has chosen Daniel jones Initial quarterbacks of Indianapolis, option of experienced agent acquisition on the club’s first round choice of 2023, Anthony Richardson SR,
“I think people have taken him to him. He is a great communicator with people. You can see that experienced appearance. So, I am excited for it,” Stechen said on Tuesday.
Asked if it was a permanent step, Stechen said about Jones, “That is our initial quarterbacks for the season. I don’t want to make a quick lease on it. I believe in his abilities.”

Richardson’s injuries and incompatibility inspired the decision to add competition, but responded with a strong training camp and encouraged the Presiden performance. “I think there was clearly a big piece of why I came here – to stay on the field and stay with this group,” Jones said. “I think it’s a strong group of players, as I said, and a strong group of coaches, systems.
“I think there are many things here that are to be excited, so yes, I am definitely happy that I decided.”
Meanwhile, Richardson tried to find out how to move forward.

The veterans used the sixth pick in the 2019 draft on Jones, who launched 69 games for New York. Their number submerged the last two sessions when he posted two lowest QBR points of his career in 2023 (36.3) and 2024 (47.8).
Richardson is left with an uncertain future. Colts have publicly stated that they do not need to win a quarterback battle for the future in Indianapolis, but it is not clear where he goes from here.
Richardson’s fifth year team for the 2027 season will require colts to decide on the option.
Ironically, Stechen was one of the fastest voices advocating Richardson’s selection in 2023. He now takes himself a decision that can affect Richardson’s future with a franchise.
Asked if he considered the long -term implications of the move, Stechen said he could not tolerate.
“I think this league is a year-on-year league,” he said. “And I do what I think is best for colts in 2025 and I got this decision to make. I am paid to do so, and I think I think I think it’s right.”
