President Trump announced on Thursday that the US would increase the tariff from 25 percent to 35 percent on some Canadian goods starting on Friday.
The White House said the goods covered under the 2020 United States-Maxico-Canada Agreement would be exempted from tariff.
The White House announced the growth of high tariff rates on several countries before it became effective. Canada is one of the top trading partners in the United States.
The White House said in a fact sheet, “The Canada has failed to cooperate in preventing the ongoing floods of Fantanel and other illegal drugs, and has retaliated against the United States for the President’s functions to address this unusual and extraordinary threat to the United States.
Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on Mexico and Canada earlier this year, citing disappointment, stating that countries did not enough to prevent the flow of fantanelle in the United States. Experts have noted relatively low fantanel crosses in the US through the northern border compared to the southern border.
Earlier this month, the President threatened to increase the tariff to 35 percent in Canada, citing the Fentenal issue again.
Trump said on Wednesday that Canada decided to recognize a trade agreement to the Palestinian state to recognize complex efforts for a broker.
Trump has claimed for months for months against Canada, claiming that the US has no need for Canada and Canada has been described as anxing as the 51st state.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and other Canadian leaders have rejected the suggestion and said that the two nations do better as partners.
