FISA 702 lapse plunges US into unknown territory


The unprecedented repeal of the country’s warrant-less spying powers has left the country in legal uncertainty over the extent to which it can conduct surveillance on foreigners abroad. Amid outrage from Democrats, both houses of Congress on Thursday failed to pass a bill to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) until July 2.
