Manchester City Coach Pep Guardiola praised his team’s determination after securing a dramatic 3-3 draw evertonBut know that they will face an uphill battle in this Premier League Title race.
City remained five points behind due to the draw armory And with a game in hand.
“It depends. It [the title] It is not in our hands. It was before that game, and Arsenal’s too. But now, in our hands, no,” Guardiola said.
City next face Brentford – who sit seventh and are still fighting for a place in European competition next season – at home on Saturday before Arsenal travel to London rivals West Ham.
“We have four games in the Premier League, the next one is Brentford, and it will be very similar, because the competitors are good and we will see what happens,” Guardiola said. “Absolutely [we go into those games with belief]Just like we came here.”
City led 1–0 at half-time after Jeremy Doku’s dramatic opening goal of the night, but City looked to be in control.
However, Everton counter-attacked by scoring three goals in the space of 14 minutes – substitute Thiarno Barry scored a double either side of a Jake O’Brien header. Barrie’s first goal came from a poor back pass from City defender Marc Guhy.
After going 3-1 down, Erling Haaland responded immediately and City stormed back, before Doku scored a point with a brilliant stoppage-time equaliser.
“Really good performance. We did a great first half. It was very difficult with his physical condition,” Guardiola said on Sky Sports. “In the second half, maybe we weren’t as much in control and when we gave away the goal, they came back and made a proper English game, were very aggressive in duels, but overall we performed really well.”
The City boss added: “It’s better than losing, [but of course it is] It is better to win and we played for that. It just shows what the team is.”
Everton boss David Moyes said at halftime that he felt his team had let themselves down due to poor defending, particularly on Haaland’s second City goal.
“But at halftime, we could have had this result because we were badly outplayed in the first half,” Moyes said. “I wanted us to have more contact, closer to Manchester City. We couldn’t get close to them, they played really well.
“But we were nowhere near what we did. It was probably the worst performance we’ve ever had here, certainly against better teams this season.
“So the players did a great job to get us into the game and when we got 3-1 up we should have done enough to close it out, but we didn’t.
“Getting a point against City is not a bad result, but when you are 3-1 up you feel you have a very good chance of winning.”
