Shanghai– Bernd Weissberger Austria played without a bogey on Sunday and finished with a 4-under 67 Adrian Otegui Spain and won the China Open, his first win since returning from the Saudi-backed LIV Golf two years earlier.
Wiesberger, who has qualified for the 2021 Ryder Cup, avoided the mistakes that cost Otegui. The Spaniard had a three-shot lead on the back nine at Shanghai Enhance Anting Golf Club but dropped both shots on the par-3.
Otegui came to the par-5 18th needing a birdie to force a playoff and hit his tee shot into a bush to the right. He finished three shots behind with a score of 71 due to a double bogey.
Wiesberger finished at 19-under 265 for his ninth career European title and first of 2021 since victory in Denmark helped him earn a spot on the Ryder Cup team at Whistling Straits. He lost all three of his matches in a rare American victory.
He was among the first players to join Saudi-backed LIV Golf in 2022 and played two seasons before his contract expired and he returned to the European Tour.
