Hafjell, Norway — Mikaela Shiffrin She overcame the challenge of rising German rival Emma Eicher in the final race of the season on Wednesday to capture a record sixth Women’s World Cup skiing title.
Shiffrin only needed to finish in the top 15 of the giant slalom and the American standout achieved it before Eichner started her second run.
Shiffrin, 31, equaled Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Pröll, who won six of her titles in the 1970s.
Moser-Pröll won five consecutive titles from 1971–75 and then won a sixth title in 1979. Shiffrin won three consecutive titles from 2017-19, then two consecutive titles in 2022 and ’23.
lindsey vonn She is third on the women’s list with four titles overall.
marcel hirscher The men lead the list with eight overall titles.
It’s been another stellar season for Shiffrin, who won the third Olympic gold of her career by dominating the slalom at the Milan Cortina Games.
Shiffrin won nine of the 10 World Cup slaloms this season and set a record of 110 wins across all disciplines – the most wins ever in the World Cup by any man or woman. Ingemar Stenmark is in second place with 86 wins in the 1970s and 80s.
