Crosby said Tuesday, “Nobody will ever admit what the real truth is. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. I’m right where I need to be.” On the latest episode of his podcast“The Rush.”
Crosby described the past week as a whirlwind. He was surprised that his time in Las Vegas was coming to an end after seven seasons and five Pro Bowl selections, but was excited for a new opportunity with the Ravens.
On Monday, Crosby said the Ravens flew him first class to Washington, D.C., due to the lack of direct flights to Baltimore. The next day, Crosby had a physical examination and an MRI, but did not speak to general manager Eric DeCosta all day.
“I thought I was going to see [DeCosta] When I reached there for the first time. I don’t know why. I’m not going to speculate.” Crosby said. “He just got traded, and I didn’t see him for five hours.”
Just before leaving the facility, Crosby met with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter and DeCosta and said the energy was down. “I fell silent [Minter]And his face was blank,” Crosby said.
Crosby said that when DeCosta informed him that one of the doctors had concerns about his knee, he was scared and wanted to get an additional opinion.
Crosby, 28, had surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He knew he needed surgery in the fall, but he continued playing until the Raiders decided to hold him out for the final two games of last season, a decision that disappointed Crosby.
His surgeon, Dr. Neil Allattrache, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Crosby was “doing very well in the early part of his rehabilitation and recovering from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and associated stress injury in the bone and cartilage of his kneecap. He is certainly on track in his planned program.”
Crosby is expected to be ready to play in training camp in July.
“It takes a toll on your mental state,” Crosby said. “…At that moment, I was scared.”
Crosby returned to his hotel and spoke with his agents, C.J. LaBoy and Doug Hendrickson, who told him they believed Baltimore would pull out the trade. Crosby then spoke with a member of the Ravens staff, who said the team still planned to complete the deal.
Five minutes later, Crosby was told by LaBoy that Baltimore had canceled the deal.
“I’m like ‘Holy s—‘,” Crosby said. “… I told [LaBoy]’I’m trying to get out of here.’
The Ravens flew him back to Las Vegas on a private plane that evening. And Crosby returned to the Raiders’ facility the next day. DeCosta said he was “disheartened” by the decision. Less than 24 hours after the decision, the Ravens signed former cincinnati bengals edge runner trey hendrickson Four-year, $112 million deal.
Crosby reiterated his commitment to the Raiders and hoped to use the outcome of the trade as motivation for the upcoming season.
“I’m here. My goal is to be a Raider,” Crosby said. “…I’m in this position—for the rest of my life unless it changes, which I don’t expect, but you never know in this dangerous league.”
