The recent Supreme Court decision allowing California to move forward with a politically drawn map favoring Democrats could, as the headlines said, lead to a victory for the Democrats, just as Texas’ map favoring Republicans was supposed to be a victory for the Republicans. However, overall, they undermine the foundation of American republican democracy.
