CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy – Italian skier Federica Brignone won the women’s giant slalom on Sunday for her second gold medal in four days at her home Winter Olympics, while Mikaela Shiffrin again missed the podium.
The race isn’t officially over yet, with dozens of lower level racers still left to take the course. But Brignone is in the lead after the fastest 30 skiers in the first race.
The 35-year-old Brignone, who won her first gold medal at the Olympics on Thursday, led after the first run of the giant slalom and was 0.62 seconds ahead of defending champions Sara Hector of Sweden and Thea Louise Stjernesund of Norway after the second run.
US standout Shiffrin was ranked 11th and has now failed to medal in eight consecutive Olympic events since the Winter Games in 2018.
