houston‘S alperen sengun Was added to the roster for the NBA All-Star Game, selected as a replacement selection on Sunday Oklahoma City‘S Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Sengun – who became Turkey’s first two-time All-Star after being selected last season – will replace Gilgeous-Alexander on the world team at the February 15 event. LA Clippers‘ home in Inglewood, California.
Gilgeous-Alexander had to withdraw from the game due to an abdominal muscle strain. Sengun is averaging 20.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists this season for the Rockets.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver selected the injury replacement. The first 10 All-Stars are selected in a system of weighted votes from fans, media and current NBA players, and 14 players named as reserves are selected in voting by the league’s head coaches.
Silver also added the Clippers’ kawhi leonard On the All-Star roster last week. Leonard was required to bring the total number of US All-Stars to the required 16 for the new US vs. World format – ensuring that each team would have the required minimum of eight players.
There are two American teams in the event, one world team. Teams will play a round-robin tournament, then the top two teams will meet again in the All-Star Finals. All four of those games will last 12 minutes, or a standard NBA quarter.
Sengun is one of only two Turkish All-Stars. Mehmet Okur Second, received his only All-Star selection in 2007.
