Morton, 56, replaced Ben Johnson, who was appointed as head coach Chicago Bears in 2024 following the Lions’ record-setting 15-win season.

Head coach Dan Campbell took over offensive playcalling duties from Morton in Week 10, following a 27–24 upset loss to Minnesota on November 2.
Campbell said he has not decided whether he will remain a playcaller moving forward.
“I mean, I’m ready for anything. I don’t know where I am yet. I mean, I think that’s one of the good things if I did it, you don’t have to worry about anybody else going in,” Campbell said Monday. “You don’t have to worry about your playcaller going away. So, that would be one of the benefits of it.
“But listen, I’m going to consider all of that, and I think I really want to do what I think is best for the team — and that includes,” he said. “If I believe it’s what’s best for us and I feel good about it, I’ll do it. If I just feel like, ‘Eh,’ then I won’t do it. I won’t do it.”
