LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Siena men’s lacrosse coach Liam Gleason has died, the school announced Wednesday, three days after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall at his home. He was 41 years old.
Gleason led the Saints to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season, his seventh tournament appearance at the Loudonville, New York, school.
Ciena President Chuck Seifert said, “Sudden, senseless loss inflicts a kind of pain that is beyond comprehension.” “It is hard to imagine someone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community has been blessed with the life of Coach Gleason.”

Gleason is survived by his wife and three children, and a fundraising effort Work is going on for the further needs of the family.
Dozens of people in uniform, including Siena players, school officials and members of the University at Albany athletic community, stood in the hospital hallway Wednesday afternoon to pay tribute to Gleason as he was wheeled into surgery to donate some of his organs, Siena officials said. The school announced his death a few hours later.
Gleason was a standout player at Albany, one of Siena’s top rivals – where the schools were just a few miles apart. He began his coaching career as a Siena assistant, then returned to Albany as an assistant before returning to Siena as head coach in 2018.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at the Sienna campus, school officials said.
