Miami — former NFL star wide receiver antonio brown Walked out of Miami jail Thursday, free on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of attempted second-degree murder.
Brown, 37, hugs attorney Mark Eiglersh outside Turner Gilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. When they went to a nearby food truck, they grabbed a bag of the stuff, where Brown got a drink, and then drove to the lawyer’s vehicle.
Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer ordered Brown to wear a GPS ankle monitor while awaiting trial. If convicted, he faces a possible 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Prosecutors had sought pre-trial detention, saying Brown was a former professional athlete with the resources to flee. Iglarsh told the judge on Wednesday that Brown, who no longer has a passport, will return to his home in Broward County, Florida, while the case continues.
According to arrest warrants, Brown is accused of snatching a handgun from a security guard after a celebrity boxing match in Miami on May 16 and firing two shots at a man with whom he had previously fought. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu told investigators that a bullet grazed his neck.
Brown’s attorney said Wednesday that the affidavit was false — Brown had actually used his personal gun, and the shots were not aimed at anyone.
