Trump says Marjorie Taylor Greene has 'lost her way'

President Trump on Monday responded to criticisms from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who accused the president of focusing more on foreign affairs than matters at home, the day after she met with the new Syrian leader.

Trump said he was surprised by Greene’s statements and suggested she should “take some action.”

Asked about Greene’s criticism, the president said in the Oval Office, “I don’t know what happened to Marjorie. Nice lady, but she’s lost her way.”

He added, “I have to look at the presidency as a worldwide position, not a local one. And we can create a world that’s on fire, where wars come to us very easily.”

The president cited the passage of a massive Republican reconciliation package earlier this year, called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as evidence of his focus on domestic policy.

“When someone like Marjorie steps forward and starts making statements like this, it shows that she doesn’t know,” Trump said.

“I’m amazed at her,” he said, “she’s putting on some kind of act.”

Trump meets with about one foreign leader per week and has made numerous trips around the world, including recent trips to Europe, the Middle East and Asia during the government shutdown.

Greene criticized Trump over his meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Monday.

Greene is known as a strong ally of Trump, but she has emerged as a critic of the GOP in recent months, including in preparation for the upcoming expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies.

She also made headlines when she offered unheard Republican praise for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after it was reported that she would not seek re-election next year. Greene told CNN in an interview that she was “very impressed” with Pelosi’s “ability to get the job done.”

Greene’s reaction to Pelosi’s retirement was a sharp contrast to Trump’s, who called Pelosi an “evil woman.”
