The driver who caused the accident and died of the former minnesota vikings Rookie Khairy Jackson and two others were convicted of three counts of negligent homicide while intoxicated in a Maryland court last Friday.
As part of a plea agreement, 25-year-old Corey Klingman faces up to three years in prison. Prosecutors will recommend a five-year sentence on each count, with all but one year of the sentence suspended consecutively.
Klingman will be sentenced on Feb. 4. He faced a total of 13 charges before the plea agreement.
She was reportedly driving at more than 100 mph and was intoxicated when she caused a three-car crash on July 6, 2024, killing Jackson and two of her high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Leighton Jr.
Hazel was driving a Dodge Charger that was hit by Klingman’s Infiniti Q50. The Charger went off the road and struck several tree stumps. According to police, Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene, while Leighton was taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
Clingman, two passengers in her car, and the driver of the Chevrolet Impala, which was also in the crash, were uninjured.
“Incidents like this are not just accidents,” said Prince George’s County state’s attorney Tara Jackson. “They are preventable tragedies that happen through conscious choices.”
Jackson, who was a month shy of his 25th birthday at the time of his death, was a fourth-round pick by Minnesota in the 2024 NFL Draft and participated in the Vikings minicamp and OTAs.
