Eagles’ Roseman on A.J. Brown: ‘Hard to trade great players’

Philadelphia– eagles RECEIVER aj brown General manager Howie Roseman said Tuesday that it was very important for the team to move him at the trade deadline.

“I think it’s hard to trade great players when you’re trying to be a great team, and AJ Brown is a great player,” Roseman said of the team captain in a videoconference with reporters. “He wears the ‘C’ for a reason. He’s an important part of this team, of this organization. He cares about winning, he cares about his teammates, and I think when you’re a team like ours that is waiting for an opportunity to compete for a championship, you can’t get rid of guys like that.”

The 28-year-old Brown is averaging 56.4 receiving yards per game this season and has expressed frustration with the state of the Eagles’ offense on multiple occasions.

He posted a photo on Instagram after his breakout two-touchdown performance against minnesota vikings in mid-October with a caption reading, “Using me but not using me,” leading to speculation about whether it was directed at the team. However, coach Nick Sirianni said everything was “business as usual” inside the Eagles building.

Brown gained 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons in Philadelphia and has been a part of two teams that reached the Super Bowl, including last year’s team that won it all.

“I feel very fortunate to have him on our team and look forward to the second half of the season with him,” Roseman said.

The Eagles made several moves before the deadline in an effort to increase their chances of repeating. He acquired:

The Eagles’ edge rush group lacked production in the first half of the season, but they should look much different now with the return of Nolan Smith (triceps). Brandon Graham Not retiring and getting traded to the Phillies.

Roseman said of Phillips, “He can run, he can pass, he can play in space. He’s got a nonstop motor.”

“Obviously it has to come together on the field, but I think we have a really good front, and obviously adding Jaylan adds a lot of pieces to give us a chance to dominate up front.”

Phillips played for Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio when Fangio held the same position in Miami in 2023 and was in the midst of a career year before rupturing his Achilles.

Roseman said all three players – senior personnel director Joe Douglas was the Jets’ general manager when New York drafted Carter, and passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker was with Alexander in Green Bay in 2019-20, when Parker served as a defensive quality control coach – allowed greater comfort in making these offseason moves.

Although Phillips’ role seems easy to project – he should be near the top of the edge rush rotation immediately – it has yet to be seen how Carter and Alexander fit into the group that is led by Cooper Deezen And Quinyon Mitchell But have struggled to solidify a third player in the CB puzzle.

“I think the first half of the season showed us how important cornerback depth is,” said Roseman, who watched Mitchell corner. jakorion bennett, Adore’ Jackson And kelly ringo All deal with various injuries. Roseman said Carter could also play safety, another position that could use some strength.

“Our work is not done here,” Roseman said of the roster in August, and that statement proved true. he also learned to run back tank bigsbyBennett, QB Sam Howellot fred johnson and Mechi in recent weeks.

“If there is an incremental difference for a player, we owe it to our team, our fans, our building and our owner to make that happen,” he said.
