President Trump aggressively defends his Justice Department in a new interview indictment Some of his political rivals dismissed the question as to whether it was retaliation.
“No, it’s the opposite. I think I’ve been too soft-spoken,” Trump said in an interview with Norah O’Donnell on CBS News’ “60 Minutes.”
“You’re looking at a man who was accused many times and I had to face punishment for it,” Trump said during the interview, which continued Sunday. “Otherwise I could not have contested the presidency. They tried to ensure that I did not contest the presidency by going after me and blaming me.”
O’Donnell puts pressure on Trump indictment Former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and former National Security Advisor John Bolton have all been vocal critics of the president.
Trump said he did not direct the Justice Department to go after him, but suggested they would not have to do so.
“You don’t need to instruct them because they were so dirty, they were so crooked, they were so corrupt that the honest people we have, Pam Bondi is doing a very good job. Kash Patel is doing a very good job,” Trump said, referring to his attorney general and FBI director.

The president was convicted in four separate cases in 2023, and James brought one case civil fraud case Against Trump’s business in 2022.
