Panthers’ Marchand steps away to help friend after daughter’s death

Halifax, Nova Scotia — brad marchand moving away from Florida Panthers To help a friend whose daughter died of cancer last week.

Marchand is filling in for his friend JP McCallum as the Wednesday night guest coach for the under-18 March and Mill Company Hunters in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Marchand is a co-owner of the team.

The game is a fundraiser for the family of 10-year-old Selah Panachi-McCallum after the death and also includes a raffle for a signed Marchand jersey.

Marchand missed Florida’s game against Anaheim on Tuesday night. Coach Paul Maurice expects Marchand to be available when the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champions face Dallas on Saturday.
