Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said it is “very unlikely” for President Trump to seek another term in the White House, but never close the book on the president.
In a clip posted on social media, a reporter asked Tuberville, “Senator, is it constitutional for President Trump to run for a third term? He’s teasing it.” Platform X Tuesday.
“You know, if you read the Constitution, it says it doesn’t, but if it says that he has some, some different circumstances that he might be able to get around the Constitution, but that’s up to him. We’ve got a long way to go before that happens,” Tuberville responded.
“But are you ready for this?” The reporter replied.
“Well, I think the Constitution should be evaluated from President Trump’s perspective. There will be a lot of legal aspects to it. Will that happen? It’s very unlikely, but never close the book on President Trump,” the Alabama senator said.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) revealed that he but have talked to trump Constitutional limits that would prevent Trump from seeking a second term. The Louisiana Republican said he doesn’t see “a path” for Trump to get an additional term beyond 2028.
“It’s been great, but I think the President knows — and he and I have talked about the constraints of the Constitution, that many of the American people deplore,” Johnson said during a press conference.
“The Trump 2028 cap is one of the most popular caps ever produced,” Johnson said.
But the speaker noted the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which prevents any person from winning the White House more than twice.
Johnson said, “I don’t see any way to amend the Constitution, because to do that, as you know, it takes about 10 years to allow all the states to ratify.”
