The performance on Monday’s episode of “Raw” reminded fans that the WWE roster is full of talent capable of stealing the show at any time.
JD McDonagh put in an incredible performance against Sheamus and won with the help of Finn Balor. The main event of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss against Bayley and Lyra Valkyria for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship was worthy of its main-event status. The show did not generate much interest in the upcoming “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on November 1, but as a self-contained show, “Raw” had entertaining moments and solidified the depth of talent within the company.

When results matter – and don’t
Wins and losses don’t matter in WWE – until wins and losses don’t matter. For example, on Monday’s edition of “Raw”, L.A. Knight lost his fourth singles match since facing Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship on August 4. It doesn’t bother me too much that he’ll face the winner of the Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and Jey Uso on Saturday, because even if he takes the title, he’ll still be a credible champion. He is already at that level of popularity. But he can only keep losing for so long before fans start moving on.
Meanwhile, the win over Sheamus means a lot for JD McDonagh, who had an incredible performance and looks strong because of it. The importance of that win to McDonagh’s story is part of the beauty of professional wrestling. At the same time victory matters and defeat also does not matter.
More ‘Raw’ Takeaways
• Could the Stephanie Wacker and Nikki Bella partnership be interesting even in the short term? The rising Women’s World Champion came to support the experienced Bella, who had been supporting Wacker during her title run. It’s interesting that this is where “La Primera” finds itself after a big win at the Crown Jewel. Will his rapport with Bella give him more momentum or hinder him?
• I’m tired of the Los Americanos schtick. Penta vs. Rusev was to determine the No. 1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship, but it ended in a no contest after El Americano Grande, Rayo Americano and Bravo Americano attacked both challengers. Where is all this leading? If a long game is being played, a few more clues and more intrigue would be appreciated.
• With that being said, I Love That a triple-threat is planned for this weekend’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event” – specifically for Dominic Mysterio. I hope Mysterio finds a more creative way to get out of the match with Penta and Rusev while retaining his title. His Eddie Guerrero-inspired moments over the past several months have been incredibly funny and impeccably executed.
• The opening segment with CM Punk and Jey Uso wasn’t their greatest, but it really didn’t need to be. I know he’s going to have a good match on “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” Punk can hit people on the mic where it hurts, but Uso was looking a little stronger, which is encouraging. I still think Punk will win the title on Saturday, and he can hold it until Seth Rollins returns from injury.
• WWE showed a well-produced video of Asuka’s decade of dominance in WWE, highlighting her 914-day undefeated streak. comes after this Asuka replied To Bill Goldberg’s sharp comments About breaking his undefeated streak.
