
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is leading the 2028 Democratic field for president in New Hampshire, according to one. new poll From the University of New Hampshire.
Nineteen percent in the Granite State poll supported Buttigieg, who ran for president in the 2020 Democratic primary and later won a position leading the Transportation Department in former President Biden’s administration. California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) came in second to Buttigieg in the poll with 15 percent support.
There is a heated debate among Democrats over how to move forward from the chaotic 2024 election cycle, which included former President Biden dropping out of the race after a disastrous debate performance, an assassination attempt on President Trump and former Vice President Harris entering the race on short notice.
Harris herself earned 11 percent support among potential 2028 candidates in the New Hampshire election.
Some left-leaning Democrats have pushed for their party to lean more toward them, while some centrists have blamed the left for recent election losses.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a notable member of the Democratic left flank who garnered 14 percent in the New Hampshire poll, recently took office himself as a leading man Amidst his party.
Over the past year, Ocasio-Cortez has been on the road with Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as part of the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, which aims to unite Democrats.
The University of New Hampshire survey was conducted Oct. 16 to 21, included 1,547 New Hampshire residents and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points. The survey totaled 602 potential 2028 Democratic presidential primary voters, with their margin of error being plus or minus 4 percentage points.
