President Trump said Thursday he is calling off trade talks with Canadaadvertising campaignIt used former President Ronald Reagan’s warnings about the long-term risks of tariffs amid a trade dispute between the US and Canada.
Trump in a Post on Truth Social Canada accused of using advertising to “interfere” Case pending in Supreme Court Determining Trump’s authority to impose sweeping tariffs on other countries.
“Tariffs are vital to America’s national security and economy. Based on their despicable behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are terminated,” Trump posted.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has clash repeatedly with Trump, the ad campaign announced earlier this month. The ad features a clip of Reagan’s 1987 address in which he talked about the tariffs imposed on Japanese imports at the time, as well as warning that long-term trade disputes hurt consumers.
Reagan says in the ad, “Higher tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries and the beginning of fierce trade wars. Then the worst happens.” “Markets shrink and collapse, businesses and industries close and millions lose their jobs.”

Canada is one of the United States’ top trading partners, and their economies are deeply interconnected when it comes to certain products. But Trump has repeatedly argued that the US does not need Canadian goods, and that Canada is far more dependent on the US for its economy.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited The White House earlier this month, where he and Trump discussed trade.
“There’s still a lot of love between the two countries, but you know the American people want the product here, they want it made here,” Trump said during the meeting. “We’re competing for the same business. That’s the problem.”
