Detroit– tampa bay buccaneers RECEIVER mike evans He broke his collarbone on Monday night lost 24-9 till detroit lionsAn injury that would sideline him for most of the remainder of the season, according to coach Todd Bowles.
“He’s going to be out most of the end of the year,” Bowles said of Evans’ possible timetable for a return. “We’ll see what happens.”
Evans, also hurt, was taken to the locker room in the second quarter after the Lions cornerback rock ya-sin tackled him on a deep pass from the quarterback Baker MayfieldHis head hit the turf as Evans and Ya-Sin fell. Ya-Sin got up immediately and was not hurt.
Evans was sad for several seconds after the game, making faces but remaining motionless while Mayfield watched in disbelief. tight end cad otonrushing back Ratched White and left tackle Tristan Wirfs Evans was surrounded as the athletic training staff took care of him, along with the rookie wide receiver emeka egbuka Kneeling at his side.
Bucs longtime defensive captain Lavonte David And Bowles went onto the field to check on Evans while his offensive teammates returned to the field. Evans required additional time and assistance before leaving the field.
“I was just worried about him,” Otton told ESPN. “I didn’t really know what was going on at that time, so just let him know I was there for him and that’s all you can do in that moment. … Obviously he’s a team leader, great teammate, great person. So I just want him to have a quick recovery.”
Egbuka said Evans appeared to be unconscious when he ran to him, “so I was just praying he would wake up, got down on my knees and prayed with him.”
He was encouraged by his teammate being in a good mood after the game.
“He’s a very strong-willed person, so he’s really hard to break,” Egbuka said. “So it was very unfortunate to see that, but I know he’s in God’s hands.”
Monday was Evans’ first game since suffering a hamstring strain in Week 3.
Bowles said, “It’s never good to see one of your stars go down like that – especially when coming back.” “Everyone was excited to see him. It’s a tough blow. … We just have to regroup and come back.”
The injury means Evans’ streak of 1,000-yard seasons is likely to end. He is the only player in league history to record 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first 11 seasons, and if he had done so again in 2025, he would have broken Jerry Rice’s record for consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in NFL history.
Evans moved into a tie with Rice last season, and reached the milestone in the Bucs’ last game of the regular season finals. New Orleans Saints, Rice gave Evans his blessing To break records this summer.
“It’s very unfortunate, but Mike is a professional,” Mayfield said. “He’ll handle it the best he can. Being injured, not being able to play is one thing, but I know Mike will be there and support the guys no matter what, and that’s really just a testament to who he is. It’s not easy to do. It’s hard sometimes to stand by and watch when you know you want to be out there contributing, but Mike will help our guys any way he can.”
