
Many popular online platforms faced problems on Monday due to Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage.
The cloud computing arm of Amazon, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure services, first reported problems around 3 a.m. EDT in the “US-East-1” region located in Northern Virginia.
It identified an issue with its DynamoDB database and began implementing fixes to resolve the issue. The company said at about 6:30 a.m. EDT that it had been “fully mitigated” and that most services were up and running again.
However, a second wave of power cuts emerged late on Monday morning. AWS linked the connectivity issues to an issue with its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), which allows users to access computing power virtually.
It began implementing the fix Monday afternoon and said around 4 p.m. EDT that the company is seeing improvements across all of its services.

coinbase
Crypto exchange Coinbase acknowledged in a post on X at around 3:45 a.m. EDT that many users were unable to access its services due to the AWS outage, but stressed that “all funds are safe.”
After initially seeing signs of improvement, the company said late Monday morning that it was “experiencing scaling issues” from the outage. It later addressed issues with its support channels, chat and calls, and core functions such as trading and transfers.

Peloton said Monday morning that it is “recovering from the AWS outage and actively monitoring all platforms and services.” However, the exercise company later noted “a further increase in errors across multiple Peloton services.”
Signal
Signal president Meredith Whitaker said at about 4 a.m. EDT that the company was aware that the encrypted messaging app was “down for some people,” which appears to be “related to a larger AWS outage.”
Fortnite
Shortly before 4 a.m. EDT, Fortnite wrote on As of around 8:30am EDT, the popular gaming platform said that “The service provider outage has been resolved and Fortnite is back online!”
However, it later noted that “Players in the Asia server region are experiencing log-in and matchmaking errors, which we are currently working to resolve.”

At 10:33 a.m. EDT, Roblox reported that its systems were again affected by the outage. Seven minutes later the company reported that “we have recovered.”
Amazon
Amazon, which runs on AWS, issued a statement to its customers at the top of its homepage.
“We’re sorry if you’re currently experiencing issues using the Amazon site. We’re working to fix it as quickly as possible.”

The United Kingdom government website was also affected by the disruption. government spokesperson told The Guardian On Monday it was working with Amazon to resolve the issue.
The spokesperson said, “We are aware of an incident impacting Amazon Web Services and the many online services that rely on their infrastructure. Through our established incident response mechanisms, we are in contact with the company, working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
