Trump RIFs hit federal offices focused on green energy

The Energy Department offices affected by the Trump administration’s layoffs include those focused on climate-friendly energy sources amid the administration’s broader crackdown on renewable energy.

Late last week, the Trump administration firedapproximately 4,000 employeesIn various government agencies, including about 187 agencies of the Department of Energy.

A spokesperson for the department told The Hill this week that the offices impacted are Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, clean energy demonstration, State and Community Energy Programs And minority economic impact,

It is not clear how many people were evacuated from each office.

The spokesperson said these offices “played a major role in the Biden administration’s war on American energy” and “oversaw billions of dollars of wasteful spending and massive regulatory overreach.”

The spokesperson said the offices were being “realigned” to reflect the Trump administration’s priorities, but did not specify what exactly this realignment would involve other than layoffs.

The offices that were affected by the layoffs appear to align with the Trump administration’s broader goals of hampering renewable energy, reducing support for states and initiatives aimed at helping minority groups.

The layoffs of more than 4,000 federal workers follow the Trump administration’s threat to fire workers if Democrats do not agree to reopen the government. They also have come as the administration has tried to downsize government in general through layoffs and buyouts.
