Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said Sunday that President Trump “should get a lot of credit” for the deal between Israel and Hamas as the president plans to move into the region.
“How much credit does President Trump deserve for this deal?” CNN’s Dana Bash asked Kelly on “State of the Union.”
“Think he deserves a lot of credit. I mean, it was his deal. He worked on it. You know, he sent Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to negotiate it and it’s been good so far,” Kelly responded.
He said, “Hopefully the hostages here will be released, maybe not within 24 hours, but certainly, I think, by Monday. And that’s progress, and now we have to see what happens next.”
On Monday, President Trump is set to address Israel’s legislature, the Knesset, and attend a Middle East peace event in Egypt. The president’s Knesset address is scheduled for 11 a.m. local time, with him expected to arrive in Tel Aviv a little less than two hours later.
