According to the US Census Bureau, the divorce rate between 2012 and 2022 declined by 28 percent.
However, there are 14 states which are contrary to this trend, where the divorce rate is still “much higher” than the national average.
To determine this, the Census Bureau witnessed the results of its annual demographic survey, US Community Survey in 2022. It found that the national divorce rate was 7.1 new divorces for every 1,000 women.
Meanwhile, about 12 women applied for divorce at 1,000 per 1,000 that year in the state with the highest divorce rate. More than a dozen states, many of which are in the south, find themselves in a similar situation.
There were “much higher” divorce rate states compared to the national average:

Ten states – Plus DC and Puerto Rico – come to the other end of the spectrum, where the divorce rate is “much lower” than the national average. They are California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Visconsin.
And while the trend of divorce is decreasing at the national level, the marriage rate remains quite stable since 2012 Census Bureau saidAn exception was a decline in 2021, possibly delayed weddings due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
