Los Angeles– Lebron James There was one more “decision” to announce. Turns out, it was an advertisement.
Los Angeles Lakers The star teased that she’ll have something to say on Tuesday. The “decision” reference is an indication of how he announced in July 2010 that he was joining Miami Heat,
It was supposed to come out at noon ET, but Hennessy — the cognac brand with which James has partnered for some time — made the announcement public about 90 minutes ahead of schedule. It was not immediately clear whether James would make another announcement in the afternoon, as previously planned.
“This fall, I’m taking my talents to Hennessy VSOP,” James said in the clip. Even the words he used in that announcement show how He announced he was joining the Heat 15 years ago,
Hennessy announced that it would release a limited-edition orange bottle featuring James’ name on the label and his signature “crowning” gesture – a nod to his “King James” nickname. “Where the first moment marked an important career step, this second decision celebrates a creative reunion and shared cultural heritage,” Hennessy said in the release announcing the move.
James teased the campaign by posting on Instagram that he would be “deciding all decisions”. The short video shows him walking towards a chair, then taking a seat across from another man sitting a few feet away – reminiscent of the setup for his first “decision” when he sat across from broadcaster Jim Gray to announce the news on television that he was joining the Heat.
As expected, social media became rife with speculation after Monday’s post. James – the NBA’s all-time leading scorer – will turn 41 in December and is not only the oldest current player in the NBA, but also set to set a record by appearing in his 23rd season in the league. He was not under contract before this season, leading to obvious speculation that he might announce retirement plans this way.
Ticket prices for the Lakers’ final regular season game in April soared in the secondary markets on Monday, with fans willing to spend big bucks if James decides it is his last season.
There were also many speculations on social media – which turned out to be correct – that the latest “decision” would involve James taking part in some kind of advertising campaign.
“I like my decision,” James says at the end of the ad.
