
Snapchat Users will soon have to pay to store large amounts of photos and videos as the platform makes a big change to convenience its popular memories.
Since its launch in 2016, memories have enabled users to save the snap that originally disappeared after 24 hours, making a collection of daily moments, milestones and ceremonies. However, the company says that anyone with more than 5GB saved material will now need to upgrade to the storage plan paid to keep the memories available.

Under the new system, users with more than the 5GB limit will be motivated to upgrade to the option paid. Introductory memories storage plan options offer a 100GB storage plan, 250GB with Snapchat+, or 5TB with Snapchat platinum.
The increased level of storage will be available for users paying for more expensive Snapchat+ and Snapchat premium membership.
The company said it would offer 12 months of temporary storage to users that are higher than the limit. During that time, users can either subscribe to a payment plan or download and store their snaps elsewhere.
How to download Snapchat Memories
If the users do not want to pay for storage, the Snapchat gives the option to export the saved snaps. Here’s how to download memories on your device:
- Open Snapchat and tap on photo icon to reach memories
- Keep the snap pressed and press which you want to save and select “exports”
- Choose where you want to download the file
Snapchat Support said that users can choose several Snap stored in memories at once.
Here’s how to download all your Snapchat data:
- Go to Settings in Snapchat app
- Scroll down and tap “My Data”
- Choose data type and choose date range
- Tap on submit request and make sure your email address is correct.
Once processed, Snapchat will email you a link to download your memories file, which you can again store on your computer.
