The college football is officially going into a single offsen transfer portal window, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.
The Division I Administrative Committee voted to approve a legislative change that eliminates the spring transfer window, but did not sign the installation of January 2-11 as a loan portal window for FBS and FCS players.
In response to the response from student-athletes, FBS and FCS oversite committees will discuss the revision of the dates and lengths of the proposed January window. On meeting in October, the administrative committee will consider those adjustments.
FBS head coaches advocated the January 1 portal window at the AFCA Convention in January, and the two oversight committees voted to support the change of transfer windows earlier this month. Last year’s winter portal window was December 16-25 with a spring portal window on 9-28 December. There has been an annual increase in the total number of FBS scholarship transfer and has surpassed 3,200 in 2024–25.
Elimination of spring transfer period is a step that NCAA has considered in recent years. It was first established as a 15-day window in April 2023 and marked the last deadline to move the players and immediately to be eligible to their next school.
